CS3: Finding resources for career development

Francesca was looking for a career in the care sector but was not sure where to begin. Her Job Coach referred her to Shipley College’s fully funded Level 2 Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care courses which run over the course of a six-week period. Francesca enrolled on the course and has achieved qualifications in Employability Skills, Food Safety & Hygiene as well as the Level 2, Preparing to work in Adult Social Care qualification. Francesca also completed a short non accredited course in Autism awareness and Mental Capacity Awareness to further aid her professional development. The college has also arranged local employers to meet with students and give them a firsthand impression of work in the sector.

Francesca says: “The course is taught in an interesting way that makes me want to work in health and social care. It makes me feel more confident of which tasks I am expected to complete as a health/social care worker. It has opened doors to more employment opportunities and has broadened my knowledge and understanding of the different aspects of health/social care services. After completing this course I will definitely pursue my dream of being a successful career and support worker.”
